Natural Cleaning Tips for Baby Gear, Pt 1

September 16, 2021 / Michelle Tran / Cleaning Tips

There’s no doubt that babies are sweet and precious, and now you’ve come home with your sweet new bundle of joy.

Babies deserve to be loved and protected in every way possible, and one of the ways on the simplest ways we can protect them is to regularly clean their baby toys, furniture, strollers, car seats, etc. There can be an unbelievable amount of germs and bacteria on baby items, and cleaning them is the simplest and most effective way to protect our sweet littles from the germs.

Cleaning baby toys, gear, and furniture is a multi-faceted topic. And this is a topic that we’ll explore here on the Maid to Shine blog over the next several months.

So, where do we begin this cleaning journey?

What Should I Use to Clean My Baby’s Things?

First things first. And the first thing on the list for safely cleaning our baby’s gear is the type of cleaner we should (or shouldn’t) use.

The purpose behind cleaning our baby’s possessions is to protect them from germs and other things that might harm them and their health. Along with that comes the question: what sort of cleaner should we use? Natural cleaners or chemical cleaners? Harsh bleach? Soap?

It’s obvious we don’t want our babies overly exposed to harmful germs, but in that passion to protect our babies, we don’t want them exposed to harsh chemicals and bleaches. Chemical and bleach cleaners can be harmful to adults. If it’s a no-no for adults, then it’s certainly a BIG no-no for infants, babies, and toddlers.

There are lots of all natural cleaning options out there.

If you’re short on time and don’t have time to make your own, natural cleaners there are lots of safe and natural options out there. There are natural soaps, cleaners, wipes, and detergents specifically for babies; or there are other natural cleaning products that are safe for adults and babies alike.

If you’d rather save money, then making your own cleaning detergent is a cinch. Companies (such as Dr. Bronner’s) offer castille soap in concentrated form. You can buy their bottles (or gallons), add a simple tablespoon or so to water, mix, and you have an effect cleaner and sanitizer for cleaning baby toys and gear!
